Sustainable House Day 2026

One of our most recent collaborations was helping deliver Sustainable House Day 2026, Australia's largest peer-to-peer sustainable homes program.

On paper, it's an event. In reality, it's a national behaviour change program disguised as a day out snooping through other people's houses.

What makes Sustainable House Day so compelling is that it is built on a simple but powerful insight: we're more likely to trust our neighbours than a brochure. The program harnesses the "neighbourhood effect" — the idea that seeing someone like us successfully navigate a retrofit, solar installation, electrification project or renovation makes us more likely to believe we can do it too. Thousands of conversations take place in kitchens, hallways, backyards and driveways, turning curiosity into confidence and confidence into action.

The challenge was to modernise and future-proof a much-loved program that has evolved over more than 15 years, while retaining the grassroots spirit that made it successful in the first place. No small task. Legacy programs come with deep trust, strong opinions and at least seventeen different ways that things have "always been done."

Our contribution included:

  • Strategy, event design and project management — Kate led the redesign and delivery of the program, bringing together stakeholders, contractors, sponsors, partners and an ambitious national event schedule.

  • Brand refresh — Lila developed a refreshed visual identity and social media toolkit that made implementation faster, more consistent and more engaging across channels.

  • Digital transformation — Mischa designed and delivered a new website and ticketing system, simplifying the experience for organisers, hosts and attendees alike.

  • Storytelling and content creation — Morgan produced a series of homeowner videos that captured the generosity, practicality and humanity at the heart of the program.

The result was a stronger platform for growth: a refreshed brand, improved digital experience and clearer participant journey for a program that proves one of the most effective ways to change behaviour is still one human being sharing what they've learned with another.
